1. Insects are small creatures having six legs, no backbone, and a body divided into three parts. 
2. They are the most plentiful of all living creatures. 
3. From man's point of view insects can be grouped into two main kinds: those insects which are useful to man and those insects which are harmful to him.
4. Bees and silkworms are examples of useful insects. Bees collect honey and wax from flowers. Silkworms make fine, strong silk. 
5. These insects provide man with food and clothing.
6. Locusts and mosquitoes, on the other hand, are harmful to man. 
7. Locusts destroy growing plants and every year trees and crops are destroyed by these hungry creatures. 
8. Mosquitoes pass the dangerous disease of malaria from person to person. 
9. Every year millions of people become ill and even die because of the activities of the mosquitoes, which are a great danger to health.
10. There are some insects which are not directly useful or harmful to man but are interesting and beautiful. Examples of such insects are colorful butterflies, pretty little ladybirds and fluttering moths.
